Any Gamers Out There!?

Hello,I'm very much interested in building my own gaming PC. I'm A+ certified but been out of the techie loop for a while and don't really know whats out there. I would like some suggestions as to what CPU, Video card, hard-drive,etc. would be worth looking into and considering. I don't mind spending anywhere around $1,200 for all the components but would love for this to be a kick-butt system that will last me a very long time. Any suggestion? Thanks for your input.

If you are gaming at 1920 resolution, the best platform is an i5 750 and a GTX 460. Reasonable entry level for the tower is ~$900 including the OS. KB and mouse are personal, $30 - $200 or more the pair. A good 24" monitor ~$225. Speakers . . . you gotta have some laying around, right :)?

i would suggest:

Intel i5-760 $210

4gigs memory or more $75 - 100

Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P motherboard $160

AMD 5770 or better vid card (6000's are nearly out) $150+

Corsair 750w PS $100

I like the Cooler Master HAF series cases $100 - 150

Zalmin CPU Fan $60

1TB WD Caviar Black $90

This will play most games at 1680x1050 at high (max) quality with no OC'ing.

This also leaves $100+ to play with too, to upgrade anything on list or invest in gaming keyboard or mouse...

Good question, sorry I left that out. I do need a case, but no monitor, keyboard and mouse. Just the complete system.

Your best recommendation and or suggestions from the above information is greatly appreciated. As I mention above I'm a daily user of World of Warcraft and would very much like to get a system that would operate very well and last me for a long time. I'm looking for great graphics and no lag. I don't mine spending anywhere from $1,200-$1,300. Thanks again guys for all your input!

I'm using a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22-inch LCD Monitor, with a Logitech keyboard Model Y-UY95. The resolution that it's currently set on is 1024 x 768. I will be using this monitor and keyboard with the system. Since this will be a new system I would not an have an idea of what the SLI, crossfire and or overclocking would be. I've included the rest of the information above when I had replied to D1RTYJU1C3. Thanks again guys! :)

The native resolution of your monitor is most important for gaming. Yours apparently is 1680x1050, and that is the minimum you will want to set up for.

Configuration assumes gaming at 1680 with no immediate change to 1920, but allows for that option later. This is a good starting point to move from based on your specific wants/needs.

No need to buy a 760 when you can turn the clock up here and match it free. If you plan to OC more, give some feedback and we'll ad an appropriate cooler. If you don't plan to OC, the 760 at +$15 is OK as well.

The 5770 does well even at higher resolutions, though if you were planning on gaming at 1920 very soon, would spec a GTX 460 1GB and a higher cost mobo supporting SLI as well, plus a 650W psu. The XFX has a double lifetime warranty, if that makes a difference to you.

Cases are a matter of capacity, air flow, quiet, and personal taste. This case does the first three, may not suit your taste. It has several bigger brothers you might look at as well, ie, 922, 932, X.
